The unofficial start of summer is rapidly approaching, and Americans are hitting the road for patriotic events across the country. Memorial Day is a special time to show thanks to the men and women who have lost their lives serving in the U.S. military. In honor of our country, here are five opportunities to celebrate Americana flair through fireworks, parades, history, food, music, and more this weekend.

Memorial Day Weekend 2018 Events

-Celebrate Commemorate Memorial Day, 5/25/18 – 5/30/18, Waterloo, NY: Waterloo, NY is believed to be the birthplace of the Memorial Day celebration. Waterloo has been hosting a community event since 1866. Highlighted events include a parade, Civil War reenactments, historical figure impersonations, and fireworks. -The New Orleans Wine and Food Experience, 5/23/18 – 5/27/18, New Orleans, LA: If you want a culinary adventure in the Big Easy, then this may be the perfect trip for you. The Wine and Food Experience features special wine-paired dinners, a Royal Street stroll filled with wine tasting and fun, and seminars from chefs and sommeliers. This festival founded in 1977 features engaging performances in theater, dance, and opera as well as chamber, choral, symphonic, and jazz music. Event locations are throughout the city in theaters, churches, and outdoor areas. The festival is the perfect place to discover up-and-coming artists in their premiere performances. -The National Memorial Day Parade, 5/28/18, Washington, DC: If you love a parade, then consider experiencing this huge, televised event in person. -Sasquatch! Music Festival, 5/25/18 – 5/27/18, Quincy, WA: 2018 marks the 17th year of the Sasquatch! Festival hosted at The Gorge Amphitheater. This Memorial Day Weekend festival is held in a remote area in the beautiful state of Washington, and the festivities are jam packed with awesome music.
