6 Delightful Wellness Tips for Travelers

Posted on: April 10, 2019

Most health-minded travelers want to plan trips that support their overall wellness. Although with all the tedious planning and possible roadblocks, sometimes taking a trip can transform into a stressful situation. That is why our team at Eat, Heal, Travel decided to compile a short list of tips for incorporating relaxation, healing, and wellness into your travel plans. Whether you are traveling around the world or taking a quick business trip, here are six simple solutions to make your trip more relaxing and rewarding:

  1. Meditate for 10 minutes: Meditation only takes a short amount of time, and it’s a perfect activity when traveling. Simply find a visually appealing setting and sit quietly for 10 minutes to reflect on its beauty. Alert all of your senses to your surroundings. Smell the salty air if you are near the ocean, feel the warmth if you are watching a sunset, hear the birds chirping if you are in the woods, or gaze upon the glistening city lights if you are staying downtown.
  2. Pamper yourself and rest: If you find a cozy white robe in your hotel room, put it on and relax. Consider also an on-call massage therapist if you are short on time, such as during a business trip. One hour of healing could provide you days of relaxing benefits. If extra in-room services are not within your budget, simply pamper yourself with some extra sleep or an afternoon nap while on vacation. Take advantage of those fantastic blackout curtains found in most hotels and slip into a deep sleep. Sleep is your body’s chance to heal. Your body enjoys reduced activity during sleep, which allows blood pressure and respiration to decrease, while digestion and cell repair increase.
  3. Discover healthy dining: As always, we encourage you to sample all the unique flavors a new place has to offer you. Remember, however, that hectic travel itineraries and unusual cuisines may take a toll on your digestive system; in turn, we suggest planning one or more incredibly healthy meals full of vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins. Perhaps you can find a vegetarian restaurant or a local café specializing in healthy dishes. If not, find a farmer’s market to get a sense of local tastes and to stock up on travel-friendly snacks like apples, oranges, and bananas.
  4. Take a hike or a bike ride: Whether you are near the wilderness, a tropical beach, or a bustling city, consider the invigorating benefits of a long walk or bike ride. It is likely that you sat for a long time on a plane or in a car to get to your destination, which is why a walk to explore your new surroundings could be exactly what your body needs.
  5. Hit the gym or go for a jog: Sometimes we forgo our exercise routine while on a trip, which can actually make our bodies feel worse than usual. Rather than doing your everyday workout, why not try something new to get those endorphins revved up during your trip. If your accommodations have a gym, you could try out a new machine. Otherwise, consider jogging around the area to enjoy new sights, or find a yoga class to stretch your muscles and your mind.
  6. Splurge at a spa: Depending on your budget, there are many different types of spa services to choose, from luxury hotel and resort spas offering the works, to locally owned day spas offering pedicures with a delightful foot rub. There is no shortage of spa options. Travelers could benefit from a hydrating facial to rejuvenate tired skin, or perhaps you will choose a hot stone massage to repair sore muscles.

We hope these simple tips will inspire you eat well, live long, and travel far! Let us know via Twitter or Facebook if you have any great wellness tips for travelers.
