Fruits and Veggies Month
Have you been eating your fruits and veggies this month? September is recognized as “Fruits & Veggies–More Matters Month” across the nation. The focus is to help folks get healthy by adding MORE nutritious fruits and vegetables to their diets. Dietary guidelines from The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) suggest filling half of each plate of food with fruits and vegetables. No matter your age, it’s recommended that all meals and snacks include a colorful array of fruits and vegetables.
The Eat Heal Travel team is always touting the rewards of nutritious foods. From being low in calories to being high in fiber, the benefits are bountiful. Eating kale, spinach, and other greens provide disease-fighting chemicals, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Eating pumpkin, carrots, sweet potatoes, and other vibrant vegetables rich in Vitamin C or carotene can help benefit your skin, eyes, and boost immunity. Eating pineapples, pomegranates, and other fruits provide a nutritional punch with vitamins, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties for overall health.
Consider all the fabulous options for incorporating these fruits and vegetables into your diet. If you don’t have time to clean and prepare fresh foods, it may be more convenient for you to stock up on frozen or canned items. Perhaps dried fruit, such as dried apricots or delicious mangos, is a simpler way to get your vitamins on the run. Any way you slice it, the more the better when it comes to incorporating fruits and veggies into a healthy diet plan.
