Breast Milk Basics

In recognition of National Breastfeeding Month, we’re offering a few nutritional notes and travel tips for nursing moms. National committees align every August to spread awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and their babies. Studies show that the antibodies present in a mother’s breast milk help infants fight bacteria, infections, and certain viruses. This can help prevent the development of chronic conditions and illnesses.

We can also add cost-savings and priceless bonding time to the list of benefits. Regarding travel, there is no reason for any on-the-move mom to stop breastfeeding. Modernized countries around the globe now offer nursing stations or rooms for mothers. Breastfeeding in public in most American states is a mother’s right protected by law. It is also a mother’s right to breastfeed on an airplane. If you prefer to store the milk, then be sure to use a pre-sterilized container or sealed bag designed for breast milk. Place the sealed containers with frozen ice packs in a cooler or insulated travel bag.
