Melons
From America around the globe to China, nothing says summer like a freshly cut watermelon enjoyed outside. There is no shortage of refreshing and delicious melon options available in stores worldwide and heavily stacked on farmer’s market tables this time of year. As a sweet, juicy fruit from the Cucurbitaceae family of plants, melons come in an array of types, including watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, and muskmelon among others. While low in fat and sodium, melons can be high in potassium, vitamins, and antioxidants offering health benefits as well as hydration.
A cantaloupe, for example, provides mega nutrition in the form of A, B-6, and C vitamins. It’s super healthy to enjoy a summer-greens salad with sliced melon, a fresh spritzer dripping with melon juices, or a colorful bowl of melon balls by itself for breakfast or as a dessert.
You can easily make a dynamic melon salad by combining cubed or balled cantaloupe, watermelon, and honeydew in a bowl. Drizzle with lime juice and toss with a bit of honey for ample sweetness. No matter how you slice it, a melon dish is a perfect addition to any summer plate, cookout, or party spread.
